I want to talk about an invention that has not only changed the way everyone lives but also has the ability to effect and cause damage.  The Internet.  A brilliant bit of kit that let’s me check the United score from wherever I am,  order me a pizza without speaking and buy loads of stuff on ebay I don’t actually want.

Within the flooring industry it also is a little miracle worker, lets me communicate with my customers, order products from suppliers and generally help the day to day running of my company.

However, there is a problem with the Internet that effects not just the flooring industry but potentially any other service industry.   We sell products to our customers and then ensure everything is fitted correctly, we offer the manufactures guarantee and offer a std fitting guarantee.  Customers are free to compare prices on the internet for some products we offer and most of the time purchasing through the internet does offer a slight discount.   Independent high street retailers are run very differently to internet based companies.  We have dedicated displays where you can select the product that’s right for you with as much guidance as you need.  With this service comes increased overheads, so yes generally we will be a little bit more than an online retailer, but you get the confidence and security of dealing with a person that is willing to come to your house and ensure everything is fitted right.  Surely, paying the premium for this service is better than risking buying a new floor off the internet?

We believe that the flooring retailer should understand the customers needs and have first hand experience of the area where the floor is going to be fitted.  All of our products we sell are not a DIY installation, they require a skilled fitter to prepare the subfloor and install the floor.  This is what we can offer, this is why we have repeat customers and this is why we are better than online retailers.

We don’t inflate our prices, we are competitive and we are good at what we do, all of these statements are not boasts, they are the foundations on which we built our business and we aim to be here for a long long time!

The high street is a British institution and although I am a huge fan of the internet and it’s unlimited possibilities, some things are better left as they are.
